Peach Crumble

Easy and Delightful Peach Crumble recipe

This peach crumble recipe is very closed to my heart. It is something that everyone in Quebec has had at least once in their life.

the story behind the recipe

Growing up, my mom used to make a crumble very often. She would substitute the fruits in the filing for anything that was in season or what was the cheapest. Most times it was apples, but she would sometimes surprise me with a mix of berries. I recommend fresh fruits, but you can also use frozen fruits.

My mom would make a big tray of crumble to keep in the fridge as a quick breakfast (it contains oats so it counts!), snack, or dessert. It was always such a warming feeling to come home with the smell of delicious and juicy fruits, topped with browned sugar and oats in the air.

This isn’t my mom’s official recipe, as she never really used one. I watched her so many times whipped this up so quickly. She would mix some fruits with sugar and flour to make a filling and then mix oats with some butter and flour to create a topping. After layering the filling and the topping in a baking dish, it would go in the oven until the house smelt like a bakery.

why you need to make this peach crumble recipe

If the description of the smell alone isn’t convincing you to make this, this is why you need to make this peach crumble:

  • It is super easy to put together.
  • You probably have most ingredients in your pantry already.
  • It serves as breakfast, snack, and dessert.
  • It is kids-friendly (I’ve tested it with kids), so basically everyone will like this!

You can easily keep this crumble in the fridge for a week, if you’re able to restrain yourself from eating the whole thing in a matter of days. You can eat it cold or you can warm it up in the oven for a few minutes and then serve with homemade vanilla ice cream. Check out my recipe for homemade ice cream!

Peach Crumble

An easy and delightful dessert (or breakfast!) made of a peach filling and topped with a buttery and sweet oat crumble.
Prep Time 30 minutes
Cook Time 40 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 10 minutes
Servings: 12 servings
Course: Dessert

Ingredients

Peach Filling
  • 7-8 peaches (chopped or sliced)
  • 1 tbsp flour (if your peaches are very juicy, add one more tbsp)
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
Crumble Topping
  • 2.5 cups quick oats
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 pinch salt
  • ¼ cup maple syrup (to drizzle on top before baking)

Method

  1. Preheat the oven at 350℉.
Crumble Topping
  1. In a bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a stainless steel pan over medium-high heat, slightly toast the quick oats. When done, add to the bowl.
  3. Return the stainless steel pan to the stove over medium-low heat to melt the butter. When the butter is melted, add to the bowl with the dry ingredients. Mix until combined or when it resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside.
Peach Filling
  1. In a different bowl, combine all ingredients and mix.
Peach Crumble
  1. In a 9 inches x 13 inches glass baking dish, add your peach filling and smooth out in an even layer. Add the crumble topping on top of the peach filling and smooth out in an even layer. Drizzle the maple syrup on top of the crumble topping.
  2. Bake in the oven for roughly 40 minutes, or until the crumble topping is golden-brown and the peach filling is bubbling.
  3. Rest for an hour to set and enjoy topped with vanilla ice cream!

Notes

You can easily substitute the peaches for other fruits. I use the same recipe to make an apple crumble (I use granny smith/green apples). The only addition is lemon juice to prevent the apples from browning.
